And a whole group of investigators risked life and limb to peer into one of the Duntiblae caves. What they saw left one ashen-faced and another howling in anguish.
But all turned out well when the ghostly spirit of Duntiblae proved to be none other than a renowned local mystic and wise woman.
But ghosts and sinister scarecrows will be prowling Waterside on the night of 31 October. Venture out if you dare!
Waterside Halloween Spooktacular!
It's Halloween: time to get creative and make Waterside spooky on 31 October and have some fun.
We have straw thanks to David and Louise Chapman, so how about making a scarecrow to scare far more than crows! Then leave it in your garden to do its chilling work on those brave enough to go for a wander round the village.
Collect your straw at the wee hall at the Miners Club any weekday in the lead-up to Halloween – see below for times.
We will also have some craft materials available for anyone who wants to decorate their windows.
The countdown is on...
Straw/craft materials collection times (bring a bag!)
Monday 25 October, 3.30-4pm
Tuesday 26 October, 5.30-6pm
Wednesday 27 October, 3.30-4pm
Thursday 28 October, 5.30-6pm
Friday 29 October, 3.30-4pm
Saturday 30 October, 11.00am-12 noon
