Looking back at Village improvements (summer 2017-Summer 2018)
It's cheering to look at all the little improvements made to Waterside over the last 12 months or so that cumulatively add up to quite a lot.

And all this without mentioning any of the events put on in Waterside over the last year: bulb- and tree-planting events; Christmas fair; nativity play; Christmas light switch-on; duck race and accompanying fun day; Waterside Village Fest; the Luggiewatch river cleans and litter picks; the Luggiewatch and Gartconner eel walk.
At the same time, Waterside was the focus of its very own book (The Waterside Picture Book by Edward Z. Smith), and is currently making quite an appearance in an exhibition at Kirkintilloch Town Hall by Edward together with Don Martin and Trevor Cromie.
Additionally one of Edward's pictures of the restored stepping stones took the front page of issue 99 of the prestigious Scottish Local History journal.
So what next?

Thanks to the Coalfields Regeneration Trust, Waterside and Rosebank groups are to benefit from £20,000 to spend on community projects.
If a group you're in could use some funding for a project that would be beneficial to Waterside or Rosebank, drop in for advice to a funding surgery between 5pm and 7pm on 4 September (see poster).
And anyone with an interest in Waterside or Rosebank should come to the Coalfields Community Futures Fun Day in the annex
at Waterside Miners Club on 15 September and vote for the projects you like best. There will be lots of fun and food and children's activities thanks to the Coalfields Regeneration Trust.
With thanks to everyone who has contributed to community improvement and activities over the last year. Here's to many more good things to come!
Thanks too to Edward Z. Smith and Debbie Carmichael for photos used on this page as well as for all their other Waterside-enriching activities.
